Become a Hospice Volunteer

November 2, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Become a Hospice Volunteer and enhance the quality of life for Hospice clients and caregivers. Hospice volunteers provide valuable support to our clients on hospice, their caregivers and families, as well as our staff who provide compassionate in-home care. Our volunteers complete an 8-session training. Our next training starts Thursday, November 2, 2017, 5:00 p.m. A $35 fee covers the cost of materials.
Hospice volunteers:

  • Provide respite for family members so they can run errands, take a walk, or have some moments alone
  • Keep hospice clients company by engaging them in activities
  • Run errands, help prepare meals, and occasionally help with light housekeeping
  • Participate in fundraising and administrative activities that support our Hospice Program
  • Listen when a client or family member just needs to talk.

How to Become a Hospice Volunteer

“I’d recommend the course to anyone, even if you decide not to become a hospice volunteer … it’s very informative and gets you to think. It’s dynamic,” said one of our volunteers.
Our comprehensive training course, which teaches you about the end of life and dying, is given at Franklin County Home Health Agency in St. Albans. The next course will be held weekly on Thursday evenings, with a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday. The last class will be held December 28.
Hospice volunteers are needed throughout Franklin County. The training will prepare you to volunteer in the homes of terminally ill clients, to offer respite to caregivers and compassionate support to our Hospice clients.
Training is provided in a variety of formats to enhance the learning experience. The $35 fee covers course materials, a binder with information from each session, resource materials and your certificate of completion.
