DESCRIPTION:Modern Times Theater is bringing its inimitable and wildly popular SATURDAY STOREFRONT TRILOGY to downtown St. Johnsbury for the first three weekends of March. For the sixth year\, an empty storefront will be converted into a pop up theater\, featuring an epic Punch and Judy puppet melodrama in three parts. It’s Saturday morning cartoons\, LIVE!\nEach weekend features a new installment of “The Perils of Mr. Punch”\, chronicling the troubles and travails of puppetry’s first couple- Punch and Judy. These shows feature brand new puppets and characters\, as well as classic puppetry gags and tricks. The audience is invited to write letters to Mr. Punch\, which will inform the creation of the next episode. Each week includes raffle prizes\, delicious refreshments\, live music\, and a hilarious all-ages show. The atmosphere is lively and friendly\, with pre-show music from a collection of vintage 78 rpm records\, played on a hand-cranked gramophone (audience participation required). Both children and adults leave with faces and bellies sore from laughing.\nModern Times Theater is working in collaboration with area property owners and Catamount Arts to bring accessible high quality theater to families in downtown St. Johnsbury. This year’s pop-up theater is at 452 Railroad Street. Shows will be the first three Saturdays of the month: March 7\, 14\, 21 at 11am and 2pm. Admission is $8 ($10 day of show) per person. Over the last 2 months\, they have served over 15\,000 meals and the need is not letting up anytime soon. This has put a major strain on their food pantry supplies. They have literally gone through a year’s supply of food in just 2 months! Their food Pantry is nearly empty and they are in critical need of more food donations.\nAND\, in addition to their food program\, they have handed out over 1\,000 hygiene and sanitation kits.\nThe Salvation Army desperately needs our help! To comply with COVID-19 guidelines\, we will be doing the following:\n●No onsite registration will be allowed. Bib pickup will be held outside under our Brookside Chapel at several tables socially distanced.\n●Hand sanitizer will be provided.\n●Masks are required and must be worn during the run.\n●Start times will be staggered.\nCost to register is $20 ($25 after 4/10) and all proceeds of this race benefit Jane’s Fight Fund. In addition to community member generously organizing their own fundraising efforts to donate to our shared cause\, this specific event is inspired and initiated by Teena Collette and her family. Teena’s father\, Jerry\, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005\, later turning to bone cancer. After having intermittent instances of remission\, the battle continues today. Jerry was a recipient of Jane’s Fight Fund in October of 2020. Being inspired by Jane’s Fight Fund\, the Collette family is helping to organize this event as a way to give back and contribute.
