DESCRIPTION:Adirondack Regional Theatre\nHonors The Heroes of 9/11\non the 25th Anniversary of the September 11 Attacks\nAdirondack Regional Theatre is proud to present Anne Nelson’s play THE GUYS at Trinity Church\, 18 Trinity Place in Plattsburgh. THE GUYS\, based on a true story\, is a timeless drama about the surprising truths people can discover in ordinary lives\, and the connections we make with others and ourselves in times of tragedy.\nTHE GUYS will be performed September 18-19 at 7pm and September 20 at 2pm. 9/11 had a lasting impact on first responders and the public in general. Adirondack Regional Theatre has partnered with Behavioral Health Services North to spotlight and raise funds for their mental health programs. While there is no admission charge\, ART is suggesting a donation of $15\, which will be donated to BHSN.\nThe story of THE GUYS. Paralyzed by grief and unable to put his thoughts into words\, Nick\, a fire captain\, seeks out the help of a writer to compose eulogies for the colleagues and friends he lost in the catastrophic events of September 11\, 2001. Joan\, an editor by trade\, draws out powerful profiles from Nick about “the guys\,” revealing vivid personalities and the substance and meaning that lie beneath the surface of seemingly unremarkable people. As the individual talents and enthusiasms of the people within the small firehouse community are realized\, we come to understand the uniqueness and value of what each person has to contribute. And Nick and Joan\, two people who under normal circumstances never would have met\, jump the well-defined tracks of their own lives\, and so learn about themselves\, about life\, and about the healing power of human connection\, through talking about ‘the guys’.\nAdirondack Regional Theatre’s production stars Lee Ann Thomas\, a humanities professor at Clinton Community College as Joan and former Plattsburgh Mayor Jim Calnon as Nick. \nTHE GUYS\nThis project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts. \nAdirondack Regional Theatre is Plattsburgh’s only year-round community theater group.
