ABOUT TIM:
I started hanging out at radio stations when I was about 6 years old. My dad, Bill, was an announcer for WSYB in Rutland. I was fascinated with the magic of radio, the electronics, the people and most importantly, the music. Mom, who was an editor of the Rutland Herald, along with dad, the radio pro, allowed me to grow up with a huge love of music - of all kinds. From Jazz, Blues, Folk and Big Band to Classical. My love for Rock and Roll, well, that was my own!
I considered myself a radio junkie and tuned in to every AM radio station that I could find. I was somewhat of a class clown, too; so it was natural for me to go into radio.
In the late 50's, when my dad got a new job with Val Carter, as Program Director and Midday Personality for 1400 WDOT, we moved up to the Queen City. Dad moved on to WJOY a few years later. That's about the time that Bill Hunter bought WDOT. I bugged him for a job. I bugged him SO much that I landed a job. A pretty prestine job too, I might add! I was only a Junior at South Burlington High School when I was hired as a gopher and board operator at a buck an hour! Now I *knew* I was cool! DOT was number one!
I learned the most about the radio biz from professionals like Tom Shovan, Jack Berry, Peter B. Guibbord and Bill Hunter. Hearing "Meet the Beatles" and the whole "Brittish Invasion" really had an impact on me. See, the week I started at DOT, there were FIVE Beatles songs in the Top 40. "I wanna hold your hand" was probably my most played record on the radio.
After about 4 years in the Burlington area, I segued down to Manchester NH and then off to most of the U.S.A, one market at a time. I made radio stops in Boston, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Hartford, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago and New York City.
In 1990, I moved back to my roots in Vermont to spend time with family. I'm happiest with my son and daughter or out riding my Harley-Davidson Sportster!
